It was quite the day for the Oshkosh West girls tennis team.

The Wildcats will be sending four girls to the WIAA Division 1 State Tournament after three flights earned an automatic berth in Thursday’s sectional held in Oshkosh.

Emily Edsell and Kimmy Steinert advanced at No. 1 and No. 2 singles after Edsell finished second behind Neenah’s Kiki Risgaard while Steinert took first.

The top four finishers in Flight 1 advance while the top finisher in the rest of flights go on to state. There are also at-large qualifiers that can still make it to state, but those will be named within the next day or two.

Edsell picked up a 6-0, 6-0 and a 6-4, 6-0 win to reach the title game before falling 6-0, 6-0. Steinert won 6-1, 6-1 her first match and then beat Jordyn Lawatsch of Neenah 6-2, 6-3 to win it all.

Also advancing for the Wildcats include the No. 2 doubles team of Erica Casper and Maggie Schiessl. The duo edged Neenah’s Hannah Dorsey and Andrea Galloway, 6-4, 6-4 in the first place match.

At No. 1 doubles, West’s Danielle Hawi and Erin Pyle lost their first match while the No. 3 team of Maddy Meetz and Alli Wolff finished third.

West’s Haley Asuma came up just short, finishing second at No. 4 singles. She lost to Ellie Callahan of Neenah in a tough 6-4, 6-3 match.

Oshkosh North’s Lesley Kutnink also participated at No. 1 singles but lost her first match.
