
The Northville Rowing Club came away with three gold medals Saturday at the 18-team Scholastic Rowing Association of Michigan Championship Regatta at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids. Sophomore Jackie Cole (center) captured the women’s varsity single scull 1,500-meter race (6:34.81) by 14.23 seconds. After winning gold at the Midwest Champions in Ohio last weekend, Cameron Ulrich (right) and Ashwath Muruganand (left) teamed up to win men’s varsity double scull race in 5:16:19. Earlier in the day, Muruganand dominated the men’s varsity single scull race (5:49.0). In a tight race in the men’s junior 4, sophomores Frank Williams, Jake Gourd, J.T Kern and Andrew Robinson, along with freshman coxswain Nikhil Bhandarkar, lost a bronze medal to Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern by only 1.9 seconds. Ulrich and Muruganand will travel to New Jersey this weekend to compete in the National Regatta for the second year in a row in the double.
