GRANBURY, Texas  – Two people died when a small plane crashed and caught fire after take-off at Granbury Municipal Airport Thursday evening.

The plane crashed just off the runway around 8 p.m. ET across the street from Granbury High School, according to DPS trooper Richard Hunter.

The two males killed were the only people aboard, according to the FAA. Their identities have not been released.

“Out of nowhere, we saw a plane head up 50, or 60, or 70 feet in the air, and out of nowhere it spiraled — almost like it was doing a trick,” said senior Brendan King.

Moments later, as some fans and coaches rushed to see if they could help, King said the plane burst into flames.
