Three Greenville County players were among the 22 selected to the American Family Insurance All-USA South Carolina baseball team, USA TODAY Sports announced this morning.
Greenville High shortstop Grant Cox was selected to the first-team infield. J.L. Mann pitcher Hank Nichols and Riverside outfielder Austin Riggins were selected to the second team.
Cox has signed to play at Clemson University, Nichols at the University of South Carolina and Riggins at Penn State University.
Pitcher Jake Crawford, a Furman University signee who led Belton-Honea Path to the Class AAA state championship, was selected state player of the year. He was joined on the first team by BHP junior infielder Blake Holiday, and Bears junior catcher Dax Roper was selected to the second team.
Chad Ellis, who led Ninety Six to it second consecutive Class AA state championship, was selected coach of the year.
Other members of the first team are pitchers Jacob Childress of Ninety Six and John Love of Latta; catcher Noah LoCascio of Wando; infielders Dupree Hart of Northwestern and Jake Mueller of Richland Northeast, and outfielders Connor Grant of Blythewood, T.J. Hopkins of Summerville and Matthew Mulkey of Emerald.
Other members of the second team are pitchers Dylan Thompson of Socastee and Graham Lawson of Woodruff; infielders Trent Autry of Chester, Donald Gillespie of A.C. Flora, Jeff Gottesman of Wando and Clay Hunt of Nation Ford, and outfielders Kep Brown of Wando and Shane Faulk of Myrtle Beach.
