Greenville has been selected to host the 2016 USYS Region III championship. The city most recently hosted the regional in 2012.

Greenville has been selected as the host site for the United States Youth Soccer Region III championships in 2016, the organization announced this morning.

The event will include boys and girls teams in seven age divisions from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

The Carolina Elite Soccer Association is the host organization, and play is scheduled for June 24-30 at the MeSA complex. According to USYS, more than 200 teams and 3,600 players will participate in the regional.

Greenville also hosted the Region III championships in 2012, and it has hosted the USYS regional (2009) and national (2014) Presidents Cup tournaments.

“It is always exciting to begin planning future US Youth Soccer Regional Championships, and part of that initial planning is choosing the best possible host city for each of our four Regional Championships,” said John Sutter, chair of USYS, in a news release. “Greenville was a great host for the 2012 US Youth Soccer Region III Championships and we look forward to working with them again in 2016 for an even better tournament.”
