The Birmingham Groves boys tennis team continued its fine court play Monday afternoon.
The Falcons won three flights in both singles and doubles and defeated district rival Seaholm, 6-3, in OAA Red Division action. Seven of the nine flights were decided in straight sets.
Groves’ singles winners included the freshman tandem of Gabe Vidinas (No. 1) and Gabe Liss (No. 2), plus senior captain Josh Olmstead (No. 3).
Vidinas defeated Seaholm’s senior captain Zaven Dadian by identical 6-4 scores while Liss stopped sophomore Brennan Bull, 6-1, 6-2. Olmstead enjoyed a 6-4, 6-1 win over Seaholm’s Max Clark.
At No. 4 singles, Seaholm’s winner was sophomore Carson Claar who stopped Groves senior Nas Sorrell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
The veteran senior tandem of Deon Griffin and Blake Small from Groves stopped the Maple duo of Gavin Butler and Brendan Knight, 7-5, 6-3.
Seaholm’s two doubles wins came from the teams of Will Geller and Andrew Latessa (No. 2) and Conor Ryan and Brian Smythe (No. 3) in straight sets. Geller and Latessa defeated Jack Dolan and Kosie Yamamoto by identical 6-3 scores while Ryan and Smythe defeated the Falcon pairing of Louie Nader and Andrew Martin, 6-1, 6-2.
At No. 4 doubles, the Groves duo of Hadrein Ovise and Lucas McCoy needed three sets to get past Seaholm’s Nick Adams and Owen Cross, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-0. At No. 5 doubles, Falcons Ian Rosenwasser and Oriol Cannalias topped the Maple tandem of Charlie Appleford and Tyler Wood, 7-5, 1-6, 6-2.
