Hallandale (Hallandale Beach, Fla.) stunned two-time defending 5A state champion American Heritage (Plantation) 27-20 Friday to advance to the state quarterfinals.
The Chargers (10-2) lost 30-15 to American Heritage just three weeks ago, but on Friday, the No. 16 Patriots (9-2) hurt themselves with four fumbles lost. The winning score came on an 18-yard pass from Tyler Huntley to Jawaun Hardy with 27 seconds left. Hallandale will play Bishop Moore (Orlando) next Friday.

American Heritage appeared to have the game in control when Kyshaun Bryan scored on a 38-yard run three plays into the second half to put the Patriots up 20-7. Huntley dropped in a short pass to Josh Howard to cut the lead to 20-14 a few minutes later and shortly after a Heritage fumble, Zack Moss scored on a 5-yard touchdown run for Hallandale to tie the score at 20.
