A week after winning the New Balance Nationals girls 2,000-meter steeplechase in North Carolina, North Rockland’s Alex Harris was on the podium again, this time in Eugene, Oregon.
The sophomore, who began competing in steeplechase just last year, clocked 10:44.48 Saturday to finish second in a field of 12 in the junior women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the USA Track & Field Championships.
“She was unbelievable. Our feet haven’t touched the ground,” North Rockland coach Gene Dall said.
Harris had run 6:52.10 to take the 2,000 steeple in Greensboro, N.C.
Also in Eugene, Bronxville sophomore Kaitlin Ryan was sixth in the junior women’s 800 (2:11.07).
Ursuline junior Anna Flynn was 13th (10:43.70) in the junior women’s 3,000 and North Rockland senior Eric Favors was 15th in the junior men’s shot put (60 feet, 1.25 inches).
