Vavae Malepeai holds the Hawaii career rushing record with 4,549 yards and 71 touchdowns. And he accomplished those numbers in 37 games for Mililani.

Last week, the Oregon commit was named the Gatorade Hawaii Player of the Year. Monday, he received his honorary jersey for the U.S. Army All-American Game. The Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance came to Mililani for an emotional ceremony with family, coaches and teammates that left few dry eyes.

Malepeai, Hawaii’s first Army All-American, got choked up talking about his parents and his coaches.

“You don’t understand what it means to me that you’re here in the stands and at my games,” he said during the ceremony, according to HawaiiPrepWorld.com.

In Malepeai’s career, Mililani lost in the state title game in 2013, won the state title in 2014 and was eliminated in the state semifinals this season.

The U.S. Army All-American Game is Jan. 9 in San Antonio.
