Hawks off to good start in girls soccer

Farmington Harrison went into spring break with a 2-0-1 record in girls soccer after playing Westland John Glenn to a scoreless tie Thursday.

The visiting Rockets had six shots on goal and six corner kicks. The Hawks had three shots on goal and one corner kick.

It was pretty much an even game with the play going back and forth. Harrison senior goalie Maya Jamison was active and effective at her end of the field, saving balls and directing traffic.

The Hawks won a hard-fought battle with OAA Blue Division rival Birmingham Groves on Tuesday at Harrison, 1-0.

Junior Kimberly Lindberg scored the only goal late in the first half with an assist from senior Jenai Teamer. Harrison had three shots on goal and one corner kick.

Lindberg scored against Groves goalie and longtime club teammate Rachel Hersch for the third year in a row.

Jamison had her usual athletic performance as the goalie, according to a team report. She stopped 17 shots and warded off three corner kicks. She also captured many other shots near the goal.

The Hawks are idle until Tuesday, April, 14, when they will play host to OAA Blue opponent West Bloomfield.

Trojans get first win

Clarenceville earned its first victory in girls soccer Wednesday with a 7-0 defeat of River Rouge in non-league play.

The Lady Trojans (1-3) didn’t allow a single shot on net and didn’t allow the Panthers to get inside their 18-yard line. Clarenceville dominated the field on offense, too, with more than 25 shots on goal.

Jordan See was the leading scorer with four goals. Nickendra Thomas, Samantha Franco and Jillian Bunker added one goal each.

“Dawn Longoria and Sarah Curvin played aggressively on offense and created multiple scoring opportunities for us,” Clarenceville coach Amanda Moody said.

“We looked strong by having good communication, passes and shooting opportunities throughout the entire game.”
