CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — The Rossview Lady Hawks soccer team played a very physical game against perennial powerhouse Hendersonville Thursday that ended in a 3-1 loss for Rossview.
Hendersonville’s Haley Stevens scored two goals and Maddie Kimler had another in the first half of the game. After the Lady Commando’s first goal at the 36:40 mark, Rossview’s defense improved. Hendersonville extended its lead to 2-0 midway through the first half as Rossview continued to scramble to get back into the game.
The Lady Hawks seemed to be on defense for most of the first half. Melanie Stevens managed to score with 3:30 left in the first half to cut the lead to 2-1. Kristen Chance was credited with the assist. Ari Milan made a couple of solid saves in the half as the Lady Hawks goalie, the last one with two minutes to go. It looked as if Rossview would finish the half with a one point deficit.
But, with seconds remaining in the first half the Lady Commandos managed to put in another goal, making it 3-1 at the half. The score would remain the same for the rest of the game.
Rossview’s coach Danny Chartrand said he was proud of his team.
“I’m proud of the girls’ effort, they played hard,” Chartrand said. “That’s a really good team over there, tradition rich. We’ll get back out here and stretch out our legs tomorrow, try to get a few touches. Hopefully well get a good training session in on Monday before we play CHS on Tuesday. That’s a big one for us.
Milan made another strong save late in the game to keep Hendersonville scoreless in the second half. The Lady Hawks were solid on both sides of the ball but the game ended with Hendersonville capturing an important Region 5 game. Both teams have been consistent region tournament qualifiers in the past few years with Hendersonville making annual trips to region postseason games.
Russ Plummer’s Commando’s move to 3-2-2 on the season.
“We’re still trying to put things together, still trying to build,” Plummer said. “But, I like what we’re doing, I like our progression. I thought we did some good things tonight. Coach Chartrand always does a great job with his girls, they always play hard.”
