Reynolds alum Bryce Hensley was named the NCAA Division II national pitcher of the week on Thursday.

Hensley is a freshman left-hander for the Catawba Valley Community College baseball team. He has signed to play for UNC Greensboro, starting with the 2016 season.

Hensley threw a 14-strikeout no-hitter on Sunday as CVCC blanked homestanding New River (Va.) Community College by a 10-0 score.

Hensley was named the 2014 Mountain Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year after going 5-4 with a 1.24 earned-run average and 84 strikeouts in 62.1 innings. Hensley then helped the Asheville American Legion Post 70 team match a record for single-season wins (18) over the summer.

Hensley is 5-2 for the Red Hawks this spring with a 1.87 earned-run average. His 55 strikeouts are 18 more than any other pitcher on the Hickory team’s roster.
