Bryce Hensley’s latest start for the Catawba Valley Community College baseball team was his best so far.
The Reynolds alum pitched a 14-strikeout no-hitter Sunday afternoon as the Red Hawks shut out homestanding New River (Va.) Community College by a 10-0 score.
Sunday’s game only went six innings.
And Hensley is technically on loan to CVCC. The left-hander has already signed to play next spring for UNC Greensboro, and the Spartans are getting a good one.
Hensley was named the 2014 Mountain Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year after going 5-4 with a 1.24 earned-run average and 84 strikeouts in 62.1 innings. Hensley then helped the Asheville American Legion Post 70 team match a record for single-season wins (18) over the summer.
Hensley is 5-2 for the Red Hawks this spring with a 1.87 earned-run average. His 55 strikeouts are 18 more than any other pitcher on the Hickory team’s roster.
