The Permian (Odessa, Texas) football team was immortalized with the 1990 publication of “Friday Night Lights.” And now, a quarter century later, senior running back Brandon Bailey is writing his own chapter of Permian history.
With a jaw-dropping 265 rushing yards and four scores Friday night, Bailey became the school’s all-time leading scorer with 56 all-purpose touchdowns. He also moved into second place on the career rushing list with 4,246 yards. The four touchdowns were a career high for Bailey, and none were better than this 72-yard scamper:
Permian got the win over Bowie (Arlington, Texas), 49-12, and will continue its playoff journey against Tascosa (Amarillo, Texas) in the second round. Permian stands at 10-1 on the season and is one of the top-ranked teams in Texas. With as many as five more playoff games to play and only 601 rushing yards needed to become the school’s all-time leading rusher, Bailey might not be done making history yet. At a school like Permian, that’s saying something.
