Credentials: Carencro High 6-5 sophomore center Jeremiah August has added an extra element to the Golden Bears, who are off to a 6-0 start to the season, including last week’s unbeaten showing at the Port Barre Tournament. August is averaging 6.1 points and 8.2 rebounds.
“He’s long, long and athletic,” Carencro coach Christopher Kovatch said. “He’s really helped us on the boards and defensively. He’s really a pleasure to coach.”
Background: August suffered a hand injury last season and limited his time. Earlier this season, fellow sophomore Braylon Chaisson was injury, opening up more playing time for August. “He’s really becomes a master of post moves working with (assistant coach) La’Ryan Gary,” Kovatch said. “He did a couple of old classic up-and-under moves against Acadiana (Monday).”
Lagniappe: In addition to emerging as a starter for the Bears on the court, August is a star off the court as well. He’s a Hugh O’Brien leadership award nominee. He helps tutor classmates with exceptionalities and he’s a volunteer at his church. “He’s just a great kid.”
