Can Pinnacle football pick up another big win this week?

Here is a look at five intriguing football games Friday night in Arizona (all games at 7 p.m.):

Five stars

FIND A GAME: Arizona high school football schedule

Phoenix Pinnacle (3-1) at Phoenix Mountain Pointe (4-0)

This is a battle of the Nos. 4 (Mountain Pointe) and 5 (Pinnacle) ranked teams in Division I. This also will indicate who might be a final four contender. Pinnacle freshman QB Spencer Rattler has shown tremendous confidence and poise, but this is a huge test against a tough secondary and strong pass rush.

This week’s top high school football story lines:

Four stars

Mesa Desert Ridge (3-1) vs. Phoenix Brophy Prep (4-1), at Phoenix College

Desert Ridge and Brophy also like to think they are capable of being in the Division I championship mix, but they need to heal up. Nevertheless, watch for another exciting finish between these two teams.

Phoenix Sunnyslope (3-1) at Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep (2-2)

This is the first time Scottsdale Community College didn’t have to be attached to a Notre Dame home game. The opening of Bemis Field will be celebrated. But the Saints need to pay attention to Sunnyslope to keep themselves in the Division III playoff hunt with 57 teams vying for 16 spots.

Three stars

Gilbert Williams Field (3-1) at Tucson Sunnyside (3-1)

These Division II teams will try to put some separation in a loaded division. Both teams play stellar defense, so, if you like low-scoring, gritty, tough-as-nails games, you’ll love watching this one.

Phoenix North (3-1) at Laveen Cesar Chavez (3-1)

Cesar Chavez has already beaten Phoenix Alhambra. Here comes another team that could stand in the way of the Champions’ Phoenix Union High School District championship. Chavez will have to be able to contain QB Torey Blevins, who has 730 yards and seven TDs passing.
