CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It was an extremely busy weekend all over North Carolina, with NCHSAA playoffs hitting full speed as the biggest snowfall of the winter began to melt.

Most Charlotte-area schools were able to get things going Friday, with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools getting back in session following a weather-induced hiatus.

In boys 4A action, local schools had a big weekend, with only Harding and Rocky River falling in the first round. The Ravens dropped a hotly contested battle to No. 15 Olympic, 72-66. Two second round games took place Saturday. No. 2 seed Butler defeated Olympic 57-50, while No. 3 West Charlotte ran away from No. 19 Jay M. Robinson 84-64. The Lions have won their first two playoff games by a combined 60 points.

In the girls 4A playoffs, it wasn’t quite as smooth going for area schools. No. 3 seed Myers Park, one of the favorites to win another state championship, rolled to a 72-34 win over North Davidson on Friday. No. 2 R.J. Reynolds also made a statement, rolling over Watauga in a 76-18 blowout. Mecka rivals Hopewell and Hough met Saturday in one of two second round games, with the Lady Titans pulling out a 46-43 win over the Huskies. They await the winner of No. 4 Ardrey Kell and No. 13 Southwest Guilford, Monday at 6:00 pm.
