Elmira lost to top-seeded Binghamton 68-57 in the Section 4 Class AA boys basketball semifinals Thursday night at Binghamton High.
The Patriots (15-5) will play for the championship and a berth in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association playoffs at 7:30 p.m. March 5 at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton. They will take on the winner of Friday’s matchup between Horseheads and Ithaca.
Tyler Moffe scored 23 points for the fourth-seeded Express (9-9), who trailed 25-17 at halftime. DaShaun Sutton and Zach Savage chipped in with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
For Binghamton, Anthony Weakland finished with 24 points and Andre Hawkins with 16. They combined to drain six 3-point shots.
Local teams in action: The Section 4 boys and girls basketball tournaments continue Friday, highlighted by a girls and boys Class AA doubleheader between Horseheads and Ithaca at Horseheads Middle School. The girls play first at 6 p.m. in a Class AA semifinal, followed by the boys semifinal at 7:45.
Elsewhere on Friday, the Watkins Glen girls host Elmira Notre Dame at 7 p.m. in a Class C quarterfinal, and the Waverly girls play at Susquehanna Valley at 7 p.m. in a Class B semifinal.
Saturday’s schedule includes two boys Class C quarterfinals. Elmira Notre Dame hosts Trumansburg at 6 p.m., with Watkins Glen hosting Greene at 7 p.m.
