The highly contested battle between the Freehold Township and Freehold girls soccer teams needed overtime to determine a final outcome. In the end, the two Shore Conference Class A North rivals finished in a 1-1 draw. Freehold Township took the lead first in the second half, but the Colonials were able to equalize shortly after.
Freehold Township struck first off a corner kick from Lacey Powell to the far post which led to Olivia Schwartz finishing to the lower left corner of the goal at 43:13.
Although the Patriots had the momentum the Colonials would have an answer shortly. After a scramble near the goal Emma Smith fired a shot that hit the crossbar, but Maria Amalfitano cleaned up the rebound to tie the game at 1-1 in the 47th minute.
Toms River South 7, Lacey 0: Emily Donzanti scored two goals and added one assist leading the Indians over the Lions in a Class A South game. Tori Babcock scored the first goal of the game and Aliya Canfield also added two goals and an assist in the win for the Indians.
Lacey keeper Mackenzie Burns finished with 12 saves and Central’s goalie Taylor Dean recorded five.
In Boys Soccer
Jackson Memorial 3, Brick Memorial 0: Mike Schoner netted a goal as the Jaguars defeated the Mustangs in a Class A South game.
Midd. North 3, Marlboro 1: Justin Mckenna scored the first goal of the game leading the Lions over the Mustangs in Class A North play. Dan Cavanagh also added another goal for the Lions in the win.
Toms River North 2, Southern 1: Mitch Reed and Joey Hertgen each scored a goal leading the Mariners to a Class A South victory over the Rams. Ethan Laming scored the only goal of the game for Southern.
Manalapan 1, CBA 0: The Colts fell for the first time in Conference play after a divisional loss to the Braves. Manalapan’s Mitch Volis scored what would prove to be the game winning goal in the in the second half off an assist from Ayush Mittal.
Donovan Catholic 2, Pinelands 1 (OT): Matt Dalton scored both goal for the Griffins including the game winner in overtime leading Donovan to a Class B South victory over the Wildcats. Ryan Acosta and Kevin Dillon each had assists for the Griffins.
Matt O’Connell scored the only goal of the game for the Wildcats.
