Abbey Wheeler of Elmira won the girls 1,500-meter run Saturday at the Cornell Invitational track and field meet in Ithaca.
Wheeler beat runner-up Amelia Mahoney of Saratoga Springs to the finish line by more than five seconds, winning in 4 minutes, 45.16 seconds.
Corning-Painted Post’s Jessica Wheeler claimed the 3,000 in 10:19.25, followed in second by her teammate, Natalie Rogus, in 10:27.97. Jessica Thatcher of Elmira was third in 10:32.9.
Wheeler and Rogus joined forces with Katie Butler and Maddie Ustanik to win the 3,200 relay in 9:39.13. Ustanik was second in the 1,000 in 3:05.22.
The Hawks also got a first-place finish from Taylor Jubilee in the triple jump at 35 feet, 5 inches. Jubilee was third in the long jump (16-2.75), trailing runner-up Kate Oteng-Bediako of Waverly (16-4.25).
Khiere Ashley of Elmira placed second in the 600 in 1:38.74. She and Wheeler got together with Jalasia Demember and Miah Hunkele for a third-place showing in the 1,600 relay (4:15.62).
Michaela Burrell of Corning was third in the 55-meter dash in 7.48.
In the boys competition, Kevin Moshier of Corning was second in the 3,200 in 9:43.14. The Hawks’ Peter Kane was third in the 1,600 in 4:31.65.
Moshier, Kane, Jack Ustanik and Jared Moore got together to take third in the 3,200 relay in 8:32.04.
Horseheads got a third-place finish in the 1,600 relay (3:35.91) behind John Sepelak, Micah Page, John Nitterour and Sean Strayer.
