Highlanders chasing title in boys swim sectional

Floyd Central will feature eight top seeds as it chases the team title in the IHSAA boys swimming sectional on Saturday afternoon.

Marc McCormick and Noble Guyon will be favored in two events each for the Highlanders, who are looking for their first team title since 2010. Jeffersonville is the defending champion, and the Highlanders had to win the last event to clip the Red Devils in the recent Hoosier Hills Conference meet.

McCormick is the top seed in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.98) and 500 free (4:45.75 as the defending champion), while Guyon is the favorite in the 200 individual medley (1:58.94) and 100 breaststroke (1:00.79).

The winner in each event will qualify for the state finals in Indianapolis on Feb. 27-28.

Floyd’s Eli Anderson is the top seed in the 100 free (48.94) and the Highlanders top the entrants in all three relays.

Jeffersonville’s Evan Shive is seeded first in the 100 butterfly (51.35, which would break the meet record he set last season). He’s also the defending champion in the 100 backstroke and is seeded first in 53.13.
