Howell (2-0-0, 2-0-0) netminder Bobby Dovenero recorded the eighth shutout of his career in a Class A North victory over Marlboro (0-2-0, 0-2-0) on Friday, tying the Rebels program record for career shutouts by stopping all 18 shots in faced.
Rebels captain Anthony Gallicchio delivered his second straight three-point night – after notching three assists in a season-opening victory over Freehold Township – with another helper and his first two goals of the season.
Timmy Clifton extended his team-leading scoring mark to eight points with a goal and three helpers, assisting on both Gallicchio markers and Zach Turcotte’s first of the season.
Louie Kuka and Sean Mylod rounded out the Rebels scoring with their first goals of the year.
Don Bosco 4, CBA 3
CBA (2-1-0) suffered its first loss of the 2015-16 season on Friday as Don Bosco Prep’s (4-0-1) Graham Garlasco delivered the game-winning goal with one second remaining in regulation.
After Chris Mazella opened the scoring with 2:41 remaining in the first period, Anthony Cucich’s first of the year knotted the score at 1-1 30 seconds later.
Corey Clifton’s second of the season sent CBA into the intermission with a 2-1 lead, before Mazella scored his second to open the third period, and assisted on a Tyler Sedlak tally with four minutes remaining in the game.
Ryan Bogan Jr.’s second assist of the night helped on a Derek Contessa game-tying goal with 1:19 left in the third, before Garlasco put home the game-winner.
Alexei Masanko stopped 25 shots to preserve the win, while CBA’s Michael Cernero made 19 saves.
Red Bank Catholic 5, St. Rose 2
Red Bank Catholic’s (1-1-1, 1-0-1) first victory of the season came over divisional foe St. Rose (1-1-0, 1-1-0) on Friday, as Caseys’ senior captain Evan Hoey led the way three goals and an assist, while Alec Mintz and Cole Kirchner each finished with a goal and two assists in the win.
Connor “Boomer” Cassidy and Michael Vendittoli accounted for the St. Rose scoring, as Alex Phipps assisted on both.
Brick Memorial 8, Toms River South 8
Ricky Napoli and Michael Jacoby each delivered hat tricks for Toms River South as the Indians (0-2-1, 0-2-1) earned a tie with Class A South foe Brick Memorial (0-1-1, 0-1-1).
It was a five-point night for Napoli, who has nine points through three games, while Mike Caufield logged six points in the divisional tilt with a goal and five assists, and now leads the Indians in scoring with 10 points (4g, 6a).
AJ Grazios and Coury Sevastakis recorded their first goals of the season, while Declan Mullin and Dillon Simeon each had assists in the game.
After being edged by Toms River North on Thursday, junior defenseman Matt McDermitt led the way for Brick Memorial with a hat trick and two assists, while Ryan Chafe, Justin Davis, Griffin DuBlois, Thomas Swartwout, and Logan Viducic all scored goals.
Hunterdon Central 4, Brick Township 3
Brick Township sophomore Hunter Price scored his first two goals of the season, while JT Maloney assisted on Michael Mooney’s team-leading fourth goal of the year, while Jake Lakatos stopped 21 of 25 shots faced as the Dragons (1-1-0) fell to Hunterdon Central in this non-conference tilt.
Sasha Pace, Josh Richards, Daniel Romeo, and Scott Schnell notched goals for Hunterdon while Noah Dominick turned away 19 of 22 shots.
