Middletown North and Marlboro opened divisional play on Saturday as the Lions skated to a 7-0 victory over the Mustangs.
The Lions – who skated with NCAA Division I commitments Khtistian Acosta (Quinnippiac) and Bobby Hampton (Northeastern) – were led by a four point night from Vinny Tomassetti on a goal and three assists, and received three more points from Kevin Felice.
Senior defenseman Kevin Tolland put the Lions up by a goal at 5:19 of the first period off a primary assist by John Hallard, the first point of the freshman blue liner’s scholastic career.
Brad Heuer and Ray Breen helped on Felice’s first of the season, before Tomassetti assisted on Justin Skelly’s first of the season to begin the second period. Skelly scored his second of the night with one second remaining in the middle frame, sending the Lions into the intermission with a 4-0.
Sophomore defenseman Nick Dodd made it 5-0 at 6:18 of the third, before Tomassetti and Felice each found the back of the net to cap the 7-0 victory.
Senior netminder Anthony Manfredi stopped all 16 shots faced to record the shutout.
