CLEARWATER — Holy Trinity’s offense sputtered, as it fell to the No. 2 team in Class 3A, Clearwater Central Catholic, 36-0.
Holy Trinity’s defense held up early as the Tigers trailed just 7-0 after one quarter.
But Clearwater Central’s offense put 15 points on the board in the second quarter and led 22-0 at the half.
Clearwater Central put up two more touchdowns in the third quarter as a running clock was implemented.
One of the more unusual plays came in the third quarter after a series of penalties pushed Clearwater into a fourth-and-52 situation. But Holy Trinity couldn’t capitalize.
Since Sept. 11, no team has come closer than three touchdowns from beating Clearwater Central.
Holy Trinity finished the season 7-4.
Holy Trinity athletic director Scott Crockett Tweeted after the game: “So proud of Holy Trinity football team! There was no quit in this team! Proud of the players and coaches for a great season! Go Tigers!”
