MIDDLESEX 35, SUSSEX TECH 14: Senior Ryan Coke rushed for 220 yards and three touchdowns and also intercepted two passes for Middlesex, which followed up a heartbreaking 14-13, last-minute road loss to Asbury Park last week with a big win in Sussex County. ,
Dan Ffriend rushed for 91 yards and a score and a conversion run and quarterback A.J. Abate had 21 yards and one touchdown rushing. Friend, a transfer from Bound Brook, who became eligible this week, opened the scoring for MHS with a 15-yard run in the first quarter. Coke then scored on a 61-yard run in in the second and a four-yard run in the third before Abate scored from five yards out in the fourth quarter. Coke scored from 42 yards later in the period to cap the scoring.
“We played OK,” said Middlesex coach PJ Jankowicz. “A win is a win, but it was important to be dominating.”
Will Eustace also intercepted a pass and Naeem Morgan had a sack and fumble recovery for the Blue Jays, who play at Metuchen Saturday in a battle for first place in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division.
