Kendra Oldroyd had three goals and an assist Tuesday as the Elmira girls soccer team shut out Ithaca, 4-0, in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference game at Ernie Davis Academy.
The contest was a rematch of last year’s Section 4 Class AA final won by the Express.
Mallory Ziegler scored the other goal for Elmira. Alexus Boorse and Meredith Fennell each had an assist. Skyelar Sancomb made three saves for the shutout.
Elmira improved to 7-1.
Twin Tiers Christian Academy 3, Ross Corners 1: Kiley Easton scored two goals and Ashley Schouten had the other goal as Twin Tiers Christian Academy blanked Ross Corners.
Notre Dame 6, Newfield 0: Connor Bayne had three goals and an assist as Elmira Notre Dame improved to 7-0 with an Interscholastic Athletic Conference victory against Newfield (4-3).
Nick Steed added two goals and an assist for the Crusaders. Rocco Coulibaly had a goal and an assist.
Horseheads 3, Union-Endicott 0: Megyan Merrill had 12 kills as Horseheads improved to 3-0 with a 25-9, 25-13, 25-21 STAC victory against Union-Endicott.
Emily Crowell added five aces and four blocks for Horseheads. Emily Smith contributed eight digs and four aces.
Binghamton 3, Elmira 1: Reilly Atkinson had eight kills and Kaily LaForce eight digs as Binghamton (1-4) won at STAC opponent Elmira, 25-16, 25-12, 21-25, 25-17. Braden Knoll had six aces and five kills for the Express (0-5), and Shayna Miller had 10 digs.
Maine-Endwell 3, Corning 1: Alex Thompson had Maine-Endwell in a 25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 25-16 win over Corning. Lauren Fie led Corning (3-2) with seven kills.
Edison 3, Waverly 0: Thomas A. Edison improved to 5-2 with a 25-20, 25-20, 26-24 IAC victory against Waverly.
Emily Lear and Mckenzie Slaven had five kills apiece for Edison, with Lear also coming up with seven digs.
Vestal 204, Corning 216: At Hiawatha Landing, Dougie Matthews shot a 2-over-par 38 to help Vestal hand STAC opponent Corning its first setback of the season. Both teams are now 8-1.
Corning’s Alex Hepburn was medalist with a 37.
Boys cross country
Newark Valley edges Notre Dame: Josh Blazey finished first in 18:16.86 as Newark Valley edged Elmira Notre Dame on a tiebreaker to first place in a four-team IAC meet at Thomas A. Edison. The Cardinals and Crusaders both had 28 points, with Watkins Glen third with 88 and Edison fourth with 106.
Matt Karee of Notre Dame was runner-up in 18:23.6.
Girls cross country
Newark Valley wins IAC meet: Sophie Stewart won in 22:20 to lead Newark Valley to first place in a four-team IAC meet at Edison. The Cardinals had 17 points, followed by Edison with 63. Edison and Watkins Glen didn’t have complete teams.
Payton Yoder placed fifth for Notre Dame.
Waverly 126, Dryden 54: Waverly won all but two events in an IAC victory over Dryden.
