Haley Williamson hit a three-run homer with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Horseheads softball team a 5-3 Southern Tier Athletic Conference victory over Vestal on Friday.
Williamson’s homer went well over the fence in center field as the Blue Raiders won their home opener. It was her second home run this week.
Williamson had two hits and Mary Claire Grosvenor added a double for Horseheads (2-1).
Notre Dame 16, Watkins Glen 1: At Watkins Glen, freshman Izzy Milazzo pitched a four-hitter in her first career varsity start as the Crusaders (5-0) rolled to an Interscholastic Athletic Conference win.
She struck out six and walked one in the five-inning game.
Mackenzie Maloney doubled, tripled and drove in three runs for Notre Dame. Brooke Harvey had a double and three RBIs, and Morgan Cox doubled and drove in two runs.
Notre Dame 12, Watkins Glen 3: At Watkins Glen, eighth-grader Ben Cook picked up the win and Cam Reid had three hits as Notre Dame (3-2) won an IAC game.
“A real solid performance by my eighth-grader Ben Cook,” Notre Dame head coach Bill Hopkins said. “He struck out eight, walked four. It was very impressive.”
Kyle Minchin, Parker May and Matt Smith had two hits each for Notre Dame. Chris Karam drove in two runs.
Maine-Endwell 5, Elmira 1: At Elmira, the Spartans (3-2) scored four runs in the second inning and limited Elmira (2-4) to three hits in a STAC victory.
Corning 6, Binghamton 3: At Binghamton, Ryan Walker and Greg Speroni each had two hits and an RBI for Corning in a STAC victory. Bobby Shepard drove in two runs and Beech Wayland struck out five in five innings for the victory. Walker pitched two hitless innings, striking out four, for the save.
Notre Dame 218, Lansing 231: At the par-36 Mark Twain Golf Course, Mike Stearns took medalist honors with a 2-over-par 38 as the Crusaders improved to 3-0. Zach Brand added a 40 for Notre Dame.
Horseheads wins three-team meet: At Willowcreek Golf Club, Madalyn Owen was medalist with a 45 as Horseheads finished with a score of 206 to beat Watkins Glen (214) and Elmira (243) in a three-team meet.
Horseheads 6, Union-Endicott 1: At Horseheads, Mike Entry, Kolby Reasons and Dustin McCullough and Gavin DeWitt earned singles wins as the Blue Raiders improved to 4-2.
Corning 17, Union-Endicott 4: At U-E, Sara Grapevine had three goals and two assists as the Hawks rolled to a Section 4 victory.
