Josh Stowell homered and three Horseheads pitchers combined on a three-hitter as the Blue Raiders remained hot with an 11-3 victory over visiting Binghamton on Wednesday in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference baseball game.
Brendan Printup picked up the win for Horseheads (11-1, 7-1 STAC), which has outscored its three opponents 25-7 this week. Matthew Wieland took over in the fifth and John Tiberia closed out the win in the seventh.
Horseheads scored three runs in the first inning and led the rest of the way.
Corning 9, Maine-Endwell 4: At Corning, Danny Manning and Nate Gorges each had two hits and two RBIs as the Hawks kept pace with Horseheads in the STAC West.
Madden tripled and Bobby Shepard added a double and an RBI.
Zach Turner gave up three hits and one run in five innings to earn the win.
Ithaca 13, Elmira 4: At Ithaca, the Little Red scored seven runs in the third inning and collected 20 hits in a STAC win over the Express.
Edison 8, Newark Valley 4: At Newark Valley, Thomas A. Edison scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull out an Interscholastic Athletic Conference victory.
The Spartans collected 12 hits in improving to 10-1.
Horseheads 11, Binghamton 6: At Horseheads, Abbey Whitney went 4-for-4 with two runs as the Blue Raiders downed STAC foe Binghamton for their third win in as many days.
Emily Knowlden and Jill Murray were each 2-for-4 with two runs for Horseheads (9-2, 7-1 STAC). The Blue Raiders took a 9-3 lead with five runs in the third inning.
For Binghamton (7-3), Elena Snelapek was 3-for-3 with two runs and Kailey LaForce was 2-for-4 with two runs.
Elmira 16, Ithaca 1: At Elmira, Sarah Topping went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs as the Express downed STAC foe Ithaca in a game called after five innings because of the 15-run rule.
Also for Elmira, Danielle Dille was 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI; Lindsay Roman was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run; Emily Saltsman was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs; winning pitcher Makena Edwards had three RBIs and Abbie Topping had two RBIs. Elmira scored 13 runs over the first two innings.
Edison 20, Newark Valley 3: At Newark Valley, Thomas A. Edison scored 12 runs in the third inning and rolled to an IAC victory.
Edison collected 14 hits and took advantage of nine Newark Valley errors.
Horseheads 16, Union-Endicott 8: At Horseheads, Tatum Benesh had five goals and two assists, and Crystal Powers contributed four goals and two assists as the Blue Raiders won the Section 4 contest.
Emily Leland added three goals for Horseheads, which led 3-0 at halftime.
Owego 12, Elmira 7: At Owego, Emma Renda and Brittany Hathaway had three goals each in a Section 4 victory over Elmira.
Alexis Brooks had three goals for Elmira.
Corning 11, Ithaca 5: At Corning, the Hawks earned a Section 4 victory over Ithaca.
Kaitlyn Lembo had four goals for Corning (7-4) and Lauren Ford added three goals. The Hawks were playing without two starters who tore their ACLs on Saturday.
“I was pleased with how my girls responded tonight,” Corning head coach Julie Pierce said. “We had to change up a lot of things and I’m really pleased with the way they’re adapting.”
Corning goalie Ali Clark had nine saves.
“She had a really big game. She was outstanding,” Pierce said.
Notre Dame 216, Tioga 227: At Mark Twain Golf Course, the Crusaders improved to 8-0 with an IAC victory behind a 4-over-par 40 from Zach Brand. Tioga’s Noah Schumacher was medalist with a 39.
Watkins Glen 221, O-M 265: At Watkins Glen Golf Course, the Senecas’ Keith Rekczis was medalist with a 5-over-par 41 in an IAC win over Odessa-Montour.
Horseheads 216, Lansing 238, Moravia 264: At Lansing’s Cedar View Golf Course, Krissy Eisenhart shot a 12-over-par 48 to grab medalist honors and lead Horseheads to a win.
Horseheads 6, Corning 1: Mike Entry, Kolby Reasons, Dustin McCullough and Gavin DeWitt had singles wins for Horseheads in a STAC victory. David Massey/Isaac Rawcliff and Ben Xu/Adam Shearer added doubles wins.
