The Roy C. Ketcham High School wrestling team edged visiting John Jay, 48-33, Wednesday in Wiccopee, as victorious Josh Shoemaker called the win a “huge boost.”
“I have a young team, and they’re starting to click,” Shoemaker said. “They are seeing their true potential.”
Joe Censullo (113 pounds) clinched win for Ketcham, scoring a pinfall. Teammate Aiden Folster (152) was trailing in his match, but fought back to win by pinfall.
“Aiden was losing, and he turned around to pin the kid,” Shoemaker said. “That swung it.”
Other Ketcham contributors were Pasquale Antonecchia (126) and Dom Emory (195), who also notched wins by pinfall.
Tyler Albis (99) and Randy Earl (120) won matches by pinfall for the Patriots (16-5).
The Indians (3-7) will take part in Mahopac’s tournament on Saturday.
Beacon 49, Walter Panas 33 – Nick Anzovino (106) and Cevon Taylor (126) both picked up wins by pinfall to lead the Bulldogs, who improved to 8-12.
“Some of the matches went our way,” Beacon coach Ron Tompkins said, “and we came out with a win.”
Beacon will take part in Mahopac’s tournament Saturday.
Omar Mendez led Pine Plains with 12 points, but his host Bombers lost 59-45 to Chapel Field.
Henry Roemer added 11 points for the Bombers, who led 11-6 after the opening period, only to trail at halftime, 25-23.
Chapel Field grew its lead to three points after the third quarter, 37-34, before doubling up the home team in the final period, 22-11, to prevail on the road.
Michael Dam (eight points) and Steven Cassarino (seven points) also contributed for Pine Plains.
Anthony Diaz scored 25 points to lead all scorers in the winning effort, while teammate Josh Parker added 20 points.
