Chenango Valley broke open a close game over the final six minutes on their way to a 62-55 victory over visiting Owego in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference boys basketball game.
With the game tied at 40 with six minutes left in the fourth quarter, Jake Hertzog and Mark Mullins hit back-to-back three-pointers to help Warriors (12-6) surge ahead. Mullins, Jake Hertzog and brother Caleb combined to score all of CV’s 25 points in the final quarter, connecting on all seven of their free throws.
Mullins scored a game-high 20 points, while Jake netted 18 and Caleb followed with 15. Brandon Hathaway led Owego with 16 points and Duncan Spicer added 11.
Chenango Valley 36, Elmira Notre Dame 33: At CV, Maggie Cross and Emily Hammond each tallied nine points and nine rebounds to lead the Warriors (9-9) over Notre Dame in a non-league contest.
