Gillian Clark and Olivia Grover combined for 30 points as the Odessa-Montour girls basketball team took control in the second quarter Thursday in a 50-29 Interscholastic Athletic Conference victory at Newark Valley.
Clark scored 16 points and Grover added 14 to help the Indians improve to 3-1.
Newark Valley led 13-12 after one quarter, but a 16-6 surge during the second quarter send the Indians into halftime with a 28-19 lead. O-M put the game out of reach with a 17-6 fourth quarter.
Sierra Post scored 13 points for Newark Valley (0-3).
Tioga 64, Edison 22: At Tioga on Wednesday, Leigha Jones scored seven points for Thomas A. Edison (1-2) in an IAC loss. Megan Godfree had 15 points for Tioga.
Newfield 49, Waverly 45: Waverly hit only 11 of 33 free throws Wednesday in an IAC loss to Newfield. Elle Nittinger had 17 points for Waverly (1-1).
Horseheads 5, Maine-Endwell 0: Mackenzie Bonyak bowled a 578 series to help the Blue Raiders open their season with a Southern Tier Athletic Conference victory over Maine-Endwell at Ideal Bowling Center in Endicott. Abby Fish added a 551 for the Blue Raiders.
Horseheads 4, Maine-Endwell 1: Matt Minor and Collin Raner each had 598 series for Horseheads in a season-opening STAC win over Maine-Endwell at Ideal Bowling Center in Endicott.
Horseheads 45, Maine-Endwell 33: Wins on the mat from Jesse Johnson (126 pounds), Dylan Kellar (132), Dylan Derr (138), Chris Eames (182), LaDarron Tutten (195) and Andrew Panaski (220) helped Horseheads to a victory over Maine-Endwell on Tuesday.
Horseheads hosts the Mark Stephens Classic this weekend at Horseheads Middle School. Wrestling starts at 5 p.m. Friday and resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday.
