Travis Ventura found the back of the net in overtime to give his Wappingers boys lacrosse team a 7-6 victory over host Irvington High School on Monday.
“We were down by three going into the fourth quarter, battled back and ended up going into overtime,” Wappingers coach Brian Kuczma said. “Off the opening faceoff (in overtime) we won possession. Jake Palmer drove from behind and found Travis open in front of the net.”
Ventura finished with two goals and four assists, while Jack Decker scored twice. Nino Fernandez, Kienen Garrett and James Pratt all tallied once.
Justin Squeo made 10 saves in the win, as Wappingers improved to 8-3. The Warriors host Mahopac Thursday.
“It was just one of those character-building-type wins,” Kuczma said. “The kids just kept battling back.”
Franklin D. Roosevelt 12, Rhinebeck 2 — Mike Lesoine had three goals and one assist to lead a balanced Presidents’ attack.
Kevin Wise (two assists), Jake Hamel and Mike Alves all scored twice, while Trevor Souza, Anthony Pedatella and Wyatt Kelly each scored once. Gabe Monck-Zweck made seven saves guarding Roosevelt’s cage.
Frankie Marnell and Jake Bennett provided the host Hawks’ scoring.
Haldane 18, Edgemont 6 – Tucker Hine scored eight goals and added four assists, while Peter Hoffmann added four goals with one assist. Tyler Giachinta (three goals, two assists), Aidan Draper (two goals), and Ryan McCollum (one goal, one assist) each chipped in.
Zach Markey made seven saves for the Blue Devils, who improved to 8-3 and will face Ossining on the road Wednesday.
Westlake 15, Pawling 2 — Sean Snow had a goal and an assist, and David McCarthy had a goal for host Pawling (1-6), which will host Putnam Valley on Tuesday.
