Huntland High School boys and girls basketball teams had to cancel their Friday night matchups with Middle Tennessee Christian School after the team bus was robbed at a restaurant en route to Murfreesboro.
The teams stopped to eat lunch at the Logan’s in Manchester around 2:30 p.m.
We got here at 2:30, sat down to eat and probably got out an hour after that,” Huntland girls’ coach Brandon Childers said. “No one was injured or anything. We just came out and found everything stolen.”
The bus wasn’t the only automobile hit.
“They broke into a lot of vehicles around the bus and then the bus,” Childers said.
As far as what was taken, the coaches and the girls were the ones hit the hardest.
“The girls’ stuff was up front so a majority of what they got was the girls’ bags and purses and the coaches’ bags, iPads, stats stuff and stuff like that,” Childers said.
Cheerleaders were also on the bus and lost items in the robbery.
“Cheerleaders were on there with us too and they got a lot of the cheerleaders’ bags, I guess just grabbing stuff, hoping money was in it..”
Despite losing some personal artifacts Childers said the worst part of the crime was having to cancel the games.
“The bad thing is jerseys and shoes and all that stuff is why we had to cancel,” Childers said. “We didn’t have enough stuff to play.”
The two schools plan to reschedule the contests later in the season.
