I have a little something different for you today, folks.
Ever wonder why coaches tweet, retweet and favorite everyone from Nietzsche and Sun Tzu to Wooden and Coach K? The short answer is because they believe it.
As Bill Broggy, the former Fox Lane football coach, said: “I know it sounds crazy, but there is an application to it.”
Indeed, for coaches like Broggy, the philosophy of sports are nothing to scoff at. Many, in fact, become something of amateur philosophers on the sideline, delivering messages to student-athletes through quotes and phrases and aphorisms and more — all in an effort to connect.
“I figure Albert Einstein said it better than I ever could,” Bob Cimmino said.
Give the story a read to find out how and why coaches aren’t afraid to dabble in philosophy to make themselves and their players better. And tell me: What’s the most memorable message a coach ever told you?
