Ever seen a football field transform into a swimming pool? Neither had the good folks of Lake Zurich, Illinois … until Friday night.

That’s when the Lake Zurich Bears were forced to postpone their scheduled football contest against Zion until Saturday because of a massive thunderstorm that dumped nearly two inches of rain on Lake Zurich in one fell swoop. The result was a field surface at Mel Eide Field more suited for goldfish than nose guards, which Lake Zurich’s Student Council tweeted out. Among the striking images were floating yard markers on the sidelines.

While the postponed game was clearly a bummer, Lake Zurich didn’t let the lack of football end the night early, instead holding an impromptu prep rally in the school gym while they waited for an official decision about the game’s status. Among the activities were a truly inspired rendition of “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” by Silento. In fact, the Lake Zurich edition got retweeted by Silento himself.

That probably makes Lake Zurich a winner on Friday without even playing. Here’s hoping the school’s field turf drains as impressive as its student body hits the whip.
