Shea Patterson ran for two touchdowns and threw three touchdown passes, two of them to Drake Davis, to lead No. 7 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) to a 50-16 defeat of Eastern Christian Academy (Elkton, Md.) on Friday. IMG led only 14-8 at the half but scored 28 unanswered points to put the game away.

Patterson’s first rushing touchdown was a 2-yarder in early in the third quarter, putting the Ascenders up 21-8. He also scored on a 12-yard short run late in the third quarter. Patterson, an Ole Miss commit, has thrown 18 touchdown passes this season while playing in parts of only nine games.

Patterson’s first touchdown pass to Davis was a 45-yarder, the second a 3-yarder. He also threw a 6-yard pass to Kerrick Hahn in the fourth quarter. Ascenders running back Tony Jones, a Notre Dame commit, scored on runs of 25 and 30 yards.

Alex Barker threw both of the Honey Badgers’ touchdown passes, the first a 31-yarder in the second quarter to to Isaiah Esdale, the second a 17-yarder to Tavion Washington in the fourth quarter.

Penalties and extra-curricular skirmishes hurt both teams. After the second touchdown reception by Davis, IMG running back Jordan Anthony and an ECA player were thrown out of the game. Two touchdowns by IMG were called back because of penalties. The game was initially scheduled for Dover, Del., but was moved to Bradenton because of venue difficulties.

It was the Ascenders’ final regular-season game as their final game next week vs. Triple A Academy (Dallas) will be a forfeit win. They do not play for a state title, but IMG (8-0) has a chance to get in a season-ending bowl game on ESPNU on Dec. 18.
