Senior Tom Capuano scored his 1,000th career point at Iona Prep on a fastbreak layup in the third quarter of his team’s 77-39 victory over visiting St. Peter’s Monday.

Capuano, a Hastings-on-Hudson resident, finished with 27 points and now has 1,009 points in three seasons at Iona Prep. He also played varsity as an eighth-grader at Hastings.

The still-unsigned guard — who has been seen by Maine, Manhattan, East Carolina and Siena in recent weeks — helped the Gaels (19-5) clinch the CHSAA ‘AA’ New York division title.

“At the end of the day, it’s just another basket,” Capuano said. “We just have to focus on trying to win a championship.”

Best of the rest: Kylan Guerra scored 30 points but Stepinac fell 68-65 to visiting St. Francis Prep. Guerra finished as the leading scorer in the CHSAA ‘AA’ (New York and Brooklyn/Queens) at 24.9 ppg.
