IUPUI picks up commitment from in-state point guard

By

IUPUI picked up a commitment from an in-state 2016 point guard on Sunday.

Reggie Tharp, a 5-10 junior from Fort Wayne Concordia, pledged to IUPUI after his tournament in Dallas this weekend. Tharp averaged 12.7 points and 4.3 assists this season at Concordia.

“I really liked it when I went on a visit (to IUPUI) and have a good relationship with coach (Gardner),” he said. “I like the feel of it and like the way they coach.”

Tharp also had offers from Chicago State and Western Illinois. He said he’d also been hearing from Ball State, Iowa and Toledo, among others. D.J. McCall, a freshman who averaged 4.8 points as a freshman at IUPUI, is also from Fort Wayne Concordia.

When asked to describe his game, Tharp said: “I see myself being a creator at point guard. I like to create for my teammates.”
