The Concord Pirates cruised to the Class 1A State boys’ golf championship on Tuesday at The Course at Turkey Mountain in Horseshoe Bend, while the Izard County Cougars finished as state runners-up by 31 strokes.
The Pirates placed their three scoring golfers in the individual top 11 and shot a team score of 262. The Cougars shot 293 and were led by Cody Workman’s 93 and Zachary Williams’ 94.
Armorel’s Layton Clark shot a 77 to earn state medalist honors, while Concord’s Jacob Webb shot 80 for second place.
West Side Greers Ferry shot 298 for third place, while Armorel placed fourth, Sacred Heart fifth and Lead Hill sixth.
Other local finishers in the individual top 25 included Lead Hill’s Trey Rogers (92), Bruno-Pyatt’s Dallas Harris (97), Lead Hill’s Ethan Nuessner (105) and Izard County’s Matt Workman (106).
