The Izard County Lady Cougars advanced to the finals of the 1A Region 2 Tournament with a 56-29 victory over the Viola Lady Longhorns in semifinal action Friday at Hillcrest Elementary School at Lynn.
Sophomore Kennedy Cooper tossed in 25 points to pace the Lady Cougars (33-7), while freshman Jen King added 10, Lauren Jones, Erica Sac and Hannah Caraway notched six each, and Natalie Everett chipped in three.
Haylee Connors led Viola (17-11) with 14 points, while Amanda Martin added six on two late 3-pointers, Lakynn Brown totaled five, and Emily Perryman and Dallas Lund chipped in two each.
Izard County stormed to a 10-0 lead before Viola rallied within 14-10. The Lady Cougars led 17-10 after one quarter, 37-16 at the half and 51-23 after three.
The Lady Cougars now face Friday’s late Norfork/Bay winner at 6 p.m. Saturday in the championship game. The Lady Longhorns face the loser of that game at noon Saturday in the third-place game.
The Cougars also advanced to the finals with a 62-44 win over the Hughes Blue Devils.
Izard County (32-8) was led by Andrew Walker with 22 points, while Clay Mosley added 18, Andy Markovic and Michael Gleghorn each found double figures with 11 and 10, respectively, and Taylor Reynolds chipped in one point.
The Cougars will face Friday’s late Bay/Armorel winner at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the championship game, while Hughes will battle the loser of that game at 1:30 p.m. in the third-place game.
