Two members of the University of West Florida cross country team earned Gulf South Conference honors.
Tim Wenger has been named GSC men’s cross country runner of the week while freshman Micah Kemp, a Jay High graduate, earned GSC freshman runner of the week.
Wenger earns his first-ever weekly conference award after leading the Argonauts to a second place team finish at last weekend’s Gulf Coast Stampede. The Inverness native finished second overall in the 8,000-meter race with a time of 25:29.50, only two seconds behind the top runner.
Kemp is the first UWF runner to take home the conference freshman runner of the week award this season. He finished 12th overall in the 8,000-meter race with a time of 27:17.80 at the Gulf Coast Stampede.
Big game for Pensacola State volleyball
The Pensacola State College volleyball team hosts Gulf Coast State in a conference volleyball game tonight that will help decide which team advances to the state tournament.
The first set of the match begins at 6 p.m. at the Hartsell Arena. The Pirates (12-7) lost the first game of their five-match series in Panama City. The Pirates need to win three of these last four meetings to earn the Panhandle Conference title and automatic bid into the state junior college tournament.
UWF hosting GSC foes
The No. 21-ranked UWF volleyball team will face a pair of Gulf South Conference opponents at home this weekend. The Argos plays Christian Brothers on Friday at 6 p.m. before facing Union (Tenn.) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
UWF will also face reigning GSC Tournament champion Valdosta State on Tuesday (Oct. 6) at 7 p.m..
Friday, October 2 will be family night and will feature half priced admission and concession specials.
