Just when it was on the cusp of breaking in to the USA Today HSS Super 25, Word of God Christian Academy (Raleigh, N.C.) learned on Thursday that it would have to continue its season without junior scoring guard Jaylen Fornes.

“I’ve decided that it’s best for me to sit out and focus on getting healthy,” said Fornes, who Phenom Hoop Report ranks No. 2 among 2016 shooting guards in North Carolina. “I injured my left ankle the third game of the season, and it never felt like I should have been playing on it.”

Fornes was averaging 18 points a game this season. He said he plans to be ready for he AAU season where he runs with Team Loaded (N.C.).

The Holy Rams (18-2) were ranked atop the USA Today HSS Next 25 list at No. 26 in this week’s poll.
