Jeffersonville senior Evan Shive will compete for spots in the Indiana High School Athletic Association state finals in two events during the boys swimming prelims at IUPUI on Friday night.

Shive is seeded fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (51.14) and sixth in the 100 butterfly (50.28). The top eight in each event will qualify for the championship race on Saturday afternoon, while positions 9-16 will advance to the consolation race.

Shive finished eighth in the state last year in the 100 backstroke and 11th in the butterfly.

Floyd Central’s Noble Guyon will also have a shot at qualifying for the second day of competition. He is seeded 13th in the 100 breaststroke (57.98), and Floyd’s 200 medley relay team is seeded 16th (1:37.03).

The other area qualifiers will have to move up from their seedings.
