Jenkins junior Whitney Creech scored 64 points last Friday in a 95-93 loss to visiting Clintwood (Va.). She hit 24 of 29 field-goal attempts, including 1 of 3 3-point tries, and 15 of 20 free throws.
The 64 points rank as the sixth-most in a game in state history, according to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s record book. McDowell’s Geri Grigsby scored a state-record 81 points against Feds Creek in 1975.
Creech, a 5-foot-9 guard, is averaging 40.4 points and 11.1 rebounds for the Lady Cavaliers (5-9) entering Friday’s home game against Shelby Valley. She led the state in scoring as a freshman (30.2 ppg) and a sophomore (34.4 ppg).
