Sumter Football Coach Leaving For Darlington

By

Columbia, SC (WLTX) — There are now two Sumter county schools in the market for a head football coach.

Perry Parks left Lakewood High School to take over the program at Ridge View and now the Sumter Gamecocks will have a new head coach this fall.

After one season as head coach, John Jones is leaving Sumter to become the new head football coach at Darlington High School.

Jones came to Sumter in 2013 as the offensive coordinator under Reggie Kennedy who left after one season to become the head coach at Irmo. Jones was promoted to head coach in May of 2014 and led the Gamecocks to a 7-5 record which included a first-round playoff loss at Summerville.

A graduate of West Florence High School, Jones is also a former head coach at North High School and an offensvie coordinator at his alma mater.

Now he will be back in familiar territory as he heads down Highway 401 North for his next assignment.
