KINNIKINNICK — After two years at the helm of the program, Zane Trace girls basketball coach Josh Jones has resigned from the position.

Through text, Jones confirmed the decision, Friday.

“It was a decision that I went back and forth with for months,” he said. “As bad as I wanted to keep coaching the girls, I knew it wasn’t the best (decision) for my own family. I have three young kids that never see their dad during the season and I have missed a lot of my own daughters’ games the past two years. I’ve never been comfortable with that.”

Under Jones, the Pioneers were 19-26 overall with a 15-13 mark in Scioto Valley Conference play — including a 2013-14 season in which they finished 11-3 in the SVC.

“I’ve been coaching for 12 years at all levels and have spent the past nine at Zane Trace in both the boys and girls programs,” Jones said. “I have a lot of great memories and I’ve met a lot of good people around the league. I will miss it but it’s best for my family. My kids will only be young once and I don’t want to miss it.”
