Bishop Kearney senior Kharysma Bryant will play on scholarship at Niagara University next school year.

Kharysma Bryant, a guard at Bishop Kearney who received a scholarship at Niagara University, was named the state’s girls basketball player of the year in Class A.

Bryant scored 21.6 points a game as the Kings (18-4) won a Section V championship for the fourth consecutive year. She also averaged 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals.

Pittsford Sutherland senior Santita Ebangwese joined Bryant on the Class A all-state first team named by the New York State Sportswriters Association. Ebangwese averaged 14 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocked shots as a forward at Sutherland. She is a Syracuse volleyball recruit.

Greece Odyssey senior forward Karissa Birthwright was named one of the six best players in Class B. Birthwright, a College of Saint Rose-recruit, became the 21st player in Section V history to score 2,000 points. She averaged 26.5 points, 14.6 rebounds and 5.5 blocked shots, and finished with 2,099 points in six seasons.

The five first-team all-state players from Section V schools also include Romulus senior center Zoe McDonald and Jasper-Troupsburg senior guard McKenzie Prutsman in Class D.

Class B player of the year: Casey Foley (Ardsley-I senior) guard. First: Karissa Birthwright (Greece Odyssey senior) forward. Third: Ashley Vanderwall (Palmyra-Macedon senior) guard. Sixth: Taylor VanThof (Livonia senior) guard/forward. Tenth: Sydney Jones (Midlakes junior) guard. Eleventh: Kelsey Polawski (Dansville senior) guard.

Class C co-players of the year: Liz Millea (Cooperstown-III junior) guard and Mckenna Maycock (Randolph-VI senior) guard. Second: Abbie Kelly (Byron-Bergen). Third: Megan Howell (Dundee senior) guard and Heidi Miller (Mynderse freshman) forward/guard. Fifth: Hannah Anderson (Caledonia-Mumford senior) guard/forward.
