HOOVER —- Alabama’s Ryan Kelly has the center spot locked up for now, but the three-year starter said former Wetumpka star Brandon Kennedy is well on his way to take over.
Kennedy was an early enrollee for Alabama in January and has quickly made an impact. The 2014 Class 6A All-State selection was rated as the No. 3 center in the country. The four-star recruit also was selected for the 2015 Under Armour All-America Game and the 2014 Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game.
Kennedy missed Alabama’s A-Day game with an undisclosed injury and sitting out was believed to be precautionary.
“He’s done great. He’s a little bit of a quiet guy, but I know he takes everything in. And when he doesn’t know something he’s not afraid to ask,” Kelly said of Kennedy at SEC Media Days. “He’s a great guy in the locker room, and that’s one thing coach (Nick) Saban’s done, he’s done a great job of recruiting the guys who want to be there. I think Brandon Kennedy’s done a great job with that, a young guy at that. He’s going to have a long career, long after I’m gone. I’m looking forward to coming back eventually and watching him play.”
