Kennedy High School senior Loghan Sprauer signed a letter of intent during a ceromony Thursday to compete in track and field at Southern Oregon University.
Sprauer is a five-time OSAA Class 2A state champion in the high jump, 100-meter dash, 200 (twice) and 400, and she led Kennedy to the Class 2A state team championship in 2014.
“I feel really good about it,” Sprauer said. “It’s like the first day I went there and I took the official visit, I just kind of knew OK, this is where I want to go.
“I hadn’t exactly toured a lot of other campuses except for Oregon State, mostly because a lot of the other colleges that were sending me letters and emails were like really close to Mount Angel like Western Oregon and Linfield. And the fact that Southern is as far away from Mount Angel as you can get while staying in Oregon is perfect in the fact that coaches seem like they know what they’re doing.”
Sprauer, who also was the Tri-River Conference player of the year in volleyball this fall, said she likely will major in business at Southern Oregon.
North Marion senior Kristopher Huapeo has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Chemeketa.
Huapeo was a first-team all-Oregon West Conference and first-team Class 4A all-state selection as a senior after helping the Huskies to the OSAA Class 4A state championship.
