As the calendar turns to July and a crucial month for evaluations of recruits, Kentucky coach John Calipari annually writes on his website about recruiting myths, the philosophy he uses and similar topics.
This year, he took a new tact. His message is much more succinct and to the point: “Who wants to be next?”
As far as recruiting, if you watch our teams – not only last year, but the other years also – you’ll notice players have improved. Nobody is left behind. We’ve had 40 scholarship-recruited players, 25 have been drafted by the NBA and another handful are in Europe, the D-League or still here on campus. I think that tells the story.
Calipari also stressed that a “normal program” could be set back by losing seven players to the NBA in a single year, even devastated for the next three or four years. But, as Calipari notes, “That’s not Kentucky.”
